About Eighth Billion
Eighth Billion (lifein8billion.com) is a free, browser-based life simulator built on real UN data. Each life draws a real birth from UN World Population Prospects 2024 (country, sex, year, family income quintile, urban or rural) and runs it forward year by year from published life tables. It covers 237 countries and territories. It is a simulation of the odds behind the "1 in 8 billion" idea, not a prediction about anyone. We are a small, fully remote, global team that works asynchronously across time zones. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies by default, and every dataset we publish is open and cited.

Languages we are hiring for
Japanese, Spanish (Mexico and Spain), Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Korean, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Italian, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian. One reviewer per language to start.
What you will do
- Review translated JSON message files for accuracy, tone and natural phrasing. Placeholders and plural rules stay intact.
- Check numbers, dates and statistical wording carefully. The product must never overstate what the data says.
- Localize page titles and meta descriptions using local search terms (local SEO), and flag culturally sensitive wording.
- Play the game in your language and report anything that reads as machine-translated.
What you bring
- Native-level writing in the target language and professional English.
- Translation, localization, copy-editing or UX writing experience. Software, games or data journalism is a plus.
- Comfort editing JSON or working in a simple review sheet. We will show you how.
Compensation and terms
- €25-40 per hour, as a freelance contractor, paid monthly in EUR for hours worked.
- 100% remote, worldwide. Any country, any time zone, with a few hours of overlap per week for async reviews.
- Flexible hours. Scope is agreed in small, clearly defined milestones, and good work leads to more of it.

Is this role fully remote? Yes. We are a global, fully remote team. You can work from any country.
Is Eighth Billion free to use? Yes. The life simulator is free, needs no account and runs in the browser on UN WPP 2024 and World Bank data.
How much work is it per language? A first full review is typically a few days of work, followed by small updates when new pages ship.
