The role – Business Development Director
The Business Development Director is responsible for driving business growth through strategic planning, relationship management, and identifying new opportunities across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.
This role requires strong commercial and financial acumen, leadership skills, and a proven ability to develop and execute successful strategies. It is a leadership position that demands strategic thinking, market expertise, and the ability to innovate amidst ambiguity in a cross-functional environment. Influencing senior leadership is essential.
The position is based in Switzerland, in the Eysins office, reporting to the VP EMEA North, with close collaboration with the VP EMEA South. The successful candidate should be based in Vaud or willing to relocate.
Main Tasks & Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement business development strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
- Assess new business opportunities, build compelling business cases, and lead initiatives to approval.
- Partner with and build relationships with senior levels of pan-European customers to foster strategic account growth.
- Optimize and expand distribution channels to enhance market reach and penetration.
- Explore opportunities for private label products and solutions to strengthen market position.
- Evaluate potential business opportunities through detailed business case development, ensuring feasibility and profitability.
- Refine business processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Continuously analyze market and competitive landscape to identify trends and expansion opportunities.
- Define pricing strategies and sales programs aligned with business goals to maximize profitability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, operations, and supply chain teams for seamless execution.
- Use data-driven insights to monitor performance, forecast sales, and identify growth opportunities.
- Lead with innovative problem-solving to address challenges and secure new business.
- Enhance customer engagement by understanding their needs and delivering tailored solutions.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, or related fields; additional qualifications in Life Sciences or Healthcare are a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of successful sales or business development experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to evaluate impacts and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Experience managing strategic, high-value accounts at regional or European levels.
- Excellent analytical skills to translate data into actionable strategies.
- Strong negotiation skills, especially in complex transactions with senior management.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, results-driven approach.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally, influence, and lead teams effectively.
- Proactive, independent work style with minimal supervision and project management skills.
- Willingness to travel across the EMEA region.
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in another European language is a plus.
