Senior Project Officer – Farm Safety Project
Part–time (0.6FTE) fixed‑term position (until September 2027) based at the School of Rural Health. Salary commensurate with experience, starting at $117,133per annum (pro‑rata) plus 17% superannuation. The role can be performed remotely or from the School precinct.
Job Overview
The Senior Project Officer coordinates and delivers day‑to‑day operations for the Farm Safety Project. Working closely with the project team, the Officer supports project activities, monitors progress, organizes stakeholder engagement, prepares reports, and ensures compliance with legislative, regulatory and university safety policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day‑to‑day coordination and administration of the Roadmap to Farm Safety Project
- Monitor project timelines, deliverables and milestone requirements to support successful delivery
- Assist in preparing milestone reports, project updates, briefing papers and documentation for funding and governance
- Coordinate project meetings, stakeholder consultations, workshops and engagement activities
- Maintain project records, action registers and communication materials
- Provide operational and project‑management support across multiple workstreams
- Conduct desktop reviews of WHS guidelines, industry reports and literature relevant to the grains sector
- Facilitate stakeholder focus groups, interviews and consultation activities
- Assist with data collection, synthesis and reporting activities associated with the project
- Liaise with growers, industry stakeholders, service providers and project partners to support collaboration and outcomes
- Identify project risks, implementation challenges and improvement opportunities
- Support communication and dissemination activities, including presentations, reports and stakeholder updates
Qualifications and Experience
- Understanding of farm safety, agricultural work practices and the operational realities of Australian grain‑growing enterprises
- Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work experience in a related field
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with sound negotiating and conflict‑resolution abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement
- High attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines
- Strong administrative skills and a general understanding of project life‑cycle, documentation, standards and methodologies in the agricultural sector
- Experience managing diverse stakeholders on large or complex projects
- Experience delivering workshops and training to stakeholder groups in the agricultural sector
- Previous experience in higher education or a complex, multi‑faced organisation
- Valid Australian driver’s licence
Additional Information
The position is negotiable within rural New South Wales, requires interstate travel and may involve occasional out‑of‑hours work. The role supports a safe working environment in accordance with University of Sydney policy.
