The EMBL Photolab group is responsible for the imaging, audiovisual and video production needs of EMBL and EMBO in Heidelberg. In this position, you will work in a team of three audiovisual technicians, three photographers and one video producer.
Your role
Responsibilities will include:
- Video project planning and production for EMBL clients, including guiding them through the preparatory and ongoing stages.
- Coordinate video production services between departments and EMBL sites for internal and external audiences.
- Autonomously run all video productions, including but not limited to interviews, documentaries, promotional videos, trailers, e-learning lectures, scientific technique demonstrations, social media postings, events summary videos, teasers, animated infographics and video reels.
- Help develop and maintain EMBL’s corporate video ID and MOGRT files.
- Run and design post-production workflows, with a variety of software spanning from professional NLE applications to After Effects, etc.
- Data wrangling, transcoding and compressing, footage logging and video archiving.
- AV support for EMBL Council meetings and emergency AV team backup.
The position involves weekend work when necessary.
Grading: 4, 5 or 6; depending on experience and qualifications (monthly salary starting from 3.6k EUR after tax + other paid benefits).
As our ideal candidate, you should have at least a university degree in media design, film and television production or higher level qualification and/or demonstrable high level experience in digital video production and non-linear editing with several years of professional experience including color grading, compositing, transcoding and motion graphics. Professional experience with advanced studio and field lighting, together with gimbal and multi-camera work are a must.
Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro are the preferred editing software of the Photolab group although experience with other platforms is also welcome. Proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Photoshop or Illustrator is also required. In addition, you should have strong storytelling capabilities, good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills together with good English language ability.
The candidate must also have a keen interest in the latest technology, both hardware and software trends, in order to keep themselves and the service offered up to date.
A good knowledge of emerging AI software, tools and techniques, both to streamline post-production workflows and to enhance the production value of all video projects is considered a very valuable asset.
You might also have
German language proficiency would be an advantage.
