Chief Operating Officer (COO)Terra One | Berlin (Hybrid)Reports to: CEO and CFOOverviewTerra One is a Berlin-based battery storage (BESS) developer and operator, combining in-house project development with a proprietary AI-driven energy trading platform. Founded in 2023, the business has grown to around 45 employees, with roughly 500MW of projects at ready-to-build stage and its first project having broken ground in 2025. Backed by institutional investors, Terra One is currently raising further capital to accelerate its pipeline from development into construction and operation. The business develops, builds and operates its battery storage assets end to end, and trades the energy generated through its own automated trading platform, active around the clock on European power exchanges. As the company scales from a development-led business into one with a growing construction and operational footprint, they are creating a new COO role to bring structure, communication and operational rhythm across Development, EPC and Growth, and to build an Asset Management function from scratch. The opportunityReporting to the CEO and CFO, the COO will take ownership of the day-to-day running of the business across three core areas: Development, EPC/Construction and Growth (the team responsible for third-party and co-located projects). The VP of Development, VP of EPC and Head of Growth will all report into this role. This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity. There is no Asset Management function today, and building one is a core part of the role. The CEO is very hands-on and wants to move towards focusing on BESS strategy and trading, and is looking for someone who can take full ownership of the operational side of the business as it grows. What you'll doBring Development, EPC and Growth together under one clear, transparent operating rhythmBuild the Asset Management function from the ground up, establishing processes, reporting and team structureLead delivery of Terra One's Ultra High Voltage project through to construction, working closely with the EPC teamSupport the wider leadership team (VP Development, VP EPC, Head of Growth, VP Corporate Finance) in aligning around a shared strategy for pipeline growthGet close to the financial and legal structuring of individual battery projects, each of which sits within its own SPVRepresent operations at weekly leadership meetings, ideally in person in BerlinWhat we're looking forGenuine experience delivering BESS projects beyond permitting and ready-to-build stage, into construction and operations, with a clear sense of what can go wrong and how to plan aheadComfortable in a fast-moving startup environment, establishing process as you go rather than inheriting oneA collegiate, low-ego leadership style. This is a flat, non-hierarchical team, and the role is a colleague to VPs and Heads of function, not a traditional bossOpen to candidates from development, construction, engineering, or financial/legal backgrounds, provided the understanding of BESS project structuring and delivery is genuinely thereComfortable working across a young, international and vibrant team, with the confidence to speak openly, including about mistakesWhat's on offerBase salary: EUR 170,000-200,000, dependent on experiencePerformance bonus split between team KPIs (Development/EPC) and individual performance, potentially up to 50% of salaryEquity (VSOP) to be discussedCompany car (negotiable) and Deutschland-TicketHome office setup, plus sports and lunch benefitsWeekly in-person leadership meetings in Berlin, with flexibility to work remotely around thisWhy this roleThis suits someone who wants to build something from close to scratch, inside a business that is scaling quickly but still moving like a startup. The CEO has a genuinely hands-on style and is looking for a colleague to help shape how the business runs operationally, not someone to simply fill a seat or manage upwards.
