We are seeking a talented Cloud Platform Engineer to shape state-of-the-art cloud infrastructures for processing large-scale Earth Observation data . This role focuses on designing, building, operating and maintaining cloud computing infrastructures, petabyte scale storage systems, and providing our storage to some of Austria’s most powerful computers, including the VSC-5 operated by Austrian Scientific Computing (ASC, https://asc.ac.at/) - formerly known as the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC). You will be part of the eodc Cloud Mission, working closely with data and geospatial software engineers to provide the platforms needed to build and run user-facing services for emergency, climate change, and agriculture monitoring services. Key Responsibilities
Architect, build and operate resilient cloud infrastructures serving compute and petabyte-scale storage Design, install and maintain networking infrastructure to support high-performance workloads Develop and maintain cloud environments Drive monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning to ensure cloud infrastructure availability and performance Ensure infrastructure security in line with organisational standards Manage infrastructure code and configurations using Git and support our Infrastructure as Code approach Follow ITSM standards for change management, configuration, and incident handling Shape the long-term direction of our platform offerings and services Contribute to a team culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning Required Qualifications
Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent, comparable work experience Strong understanding of distributed storage, compute and virtualisation technologies (e.g. Ceph , GPFS , Proxmox) Solid understanding of networking and networking technologies (e.g. Cumulus , InfiniBand, Ethernet) Experience in designing, deploying, and operating cloud environments (e.g. OpenStack , Ansible, Kayobe ) Enthusiasm for version control and Infrastructure as Code principles (e.g. Git , GitOps ) Thorough experience in scripting (e.g. Bash , Python , or Go ) Strong collaboration and knowledge-sharing mindset within a team environment Nice-to-Have
Familiarity with monitoring, alerting and capacity planning practices Understanding of security best practices Willingness to explore, evaluate, and adopt new innovative solutions Background in Earth Observation, remote sensing, or environmental science What we offer
