Principal AI Consultant - Energy/Oil & Gas (m/f/d) in München

We're looking for a Principal AI Consultant – Energy/Oil & Gas (m/f/d) to join our Data & AI Consulting team in Frankfurt, Dusseldorf or Munich Germany in a hybrid working mode.

EPAM’s Data & AI practice delivers comprehensive consulting and implementation services, helping organizations achieve business value through AI-driven transformation. Our expertise spans data platform modernization, advanced analytics, NLP, LLMOps, agentic frameworks and Responsible AI solutions.

In this role, you will build and lead our Energy & Utilities practice, driving AI strategy and solution delivery for key sectors such as energy transition, grid modernization and utility operations, with Oil & Gas as an adjacent area of focus. You will have end-to-end responsibility – from shaping client relationships and defining go-to-market strategies to growing a specialized consulting team and ensuring delivery excellence.

This is an opportunity for a consulting leader to define an industry practice from the ground up and influence the adoption of next-generation AI solutions for some of Germany’s most critical industries.

Responsibilities

• Drive growth of the Energy & Utilities Data & AI practice in Germany, building client relationships, target-account pipeline and go-to-market offerings
• Work with energy clients and EPAM teams (industry SMEs, account management, delivery) to shape AI strategy and define transformation roadmaps
• Facilitate discovery workshops, solution design sessions and C-level strategy discussions
• Develop high-quality proposals and enterprise Data & AI strategies for the sector
• Lead the creation and continuous refinement of EPAM’s Data & AI offerings for Energy & Utilities, aligned with technology trends and regulatory changes
• Build and mentor a high-performing consulting team, developing capability in advanced AI and data solutions
• Act as a trusted advisor for clients on both technical and business impact dimensions, including regulatory and governance considerations
• Contribute to thought leadership initiatives by representing EPAM’s industry perspective at events and in publications

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Data & AI consulting leadership roles across Energy, Utilities or Oil & Gas sectors
• Minimum of 5 years in senior leadership with team-building and P&L or account growth responsibilities
• Demonstrated expertise in at least one Energy or Utilities domain: grid modernization, renewables/DER integration, demand-side management, generation/transmission/distribution, energy trading and risk management. (Oil & Gas experience is a strong plus)
• Technical depth in at least one applied AI domain: computer vision, NLP/language models, recommender systems, predictive maintenance or time series analytics
• Experience delivering AI solutions on major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP), including ML engineering practices
• Working knowledge of modern data and AI platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake and agentic orchestration frameworks
• Familiarity with SDLC and best practices for Data & AI product development
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills adaptable for both technical and executive audiences
• Consulting experience with a strong track record in client-facing advisory roles
• Business-fluent in German and English, capable of leading client discussions and engagements in both languages

Nice to have

• Exposure to renewables, Data Center Energy Management or DER/grid-edge technologies
• Oil & Gas value-chain experience (Upstream, Midstream or Downstream)
• Recognized thought leadership in AI/Data (publications, conferences, open-source)
• Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) or advanced Databricks certifications
• Familiarity with industry regulatory processes, safety standards and compliance requirements (e.g., EU energy regulation, ESG frameworks)
