This position is offered in the context of the “seizmic” Doctoral Network, based on a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) grant. The goals of this position are to contribute to the seizmic project and to allow the candidate to pursue a PhD degree. Planned start: 1st February 2025 (contingent upon the receipt of funding).
Research Project
The focus will be on studying how business model design and cross-sector collaboration influence the scalability of social enterprises (SE). The research shall uncover the influence of business model design (e.g., commercial, non-commercial logics), cross-sector collaboration (e.g., with businesses, NGOs), and market dynamics (e.g., availability of funding) on SE scaling. A thorough literature review shall be conducted. Further research methods will include qualitative case studies, interviews, participant observations, and surveys to gather in-depth data from SEs and their partners. This position and the related PhD research project will be part of a Europe-wide network of 15 doctoral students investigating SE scaling. The position will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Florian Lüdeke-Freund and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Esben Rahbek Pedersen, Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Denmark.
Secondments
As required by the MSCA guidelines, the candidate will have an academic secondment at CBS and will also have a non-academic secondment with a third-party organisation (e.g., social enterprise, company, association).

- A master’s degree in entrepreneurship, business, management, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge about social entrepreneurship, non-profit businesses, sustainable businesses, or related topics.
- According to the MSCA mobility requirements, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.
