Overview
As Head of the Research Data Management Facility at D-BSSE, you will shape and lead a strategic RDM unit within ETH Zurich. You will translate research needs into sustainable, FAIR-compliant infrastructure and software solutions, while steering projects from concept to budget and rollout. You will build and mentor a small specialist team and represent the unit within ETH and broader RDM networks. This role blends research, IT, and governance to advance open science and data stewardship at scale.

Verantwortungsbereiche
- Establish and strategically develop the RDM unit aligned with ETH-wide and international developments
- Define and prioritize the departmental RDM strategy
- Collaborate with research groups to translate needs into viable system solutions
- Design, plan, and manage software projects including requirements, stakeholder management, and budgeting
- Ensure RDM systems are FAIR, secure, efficient, and sustainably operated
- Contribute to design, prototyping, and development of RDM infrastructures, favoring open source tech
- Oversee rollout and reliable operation with the departmental IT Facility
- Build and lead a small team, develop internal competencies
- Represent the unit within ETH and national/international RDM networks
Zentrale Anforderungen
- PhD in natural sciences, engineering, computer science, or comparable fields
- Several years of experience in research data management
- In-depth knowledge of FAIR principles, open science standards, and regulatory requirements (data security)
- Experience in designing and managing complex software projects
- Strategic thinking and ability to translate visions into concrete projects
- Management experience or strong leadership potential
- Excellent communication skills and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration
- High degree of independence, decisiveness, and sense of responsibility
- Very good English skills; German skills are an advantage
