Join ETH Zurich’s Solid-State Materials Chemistry group to explore functional oxide thin films and layered perovskites. You will fabricate and study epitaxial oxide heterostructures, aiming to control electric, magnetic, and structural properties for potential tech transfer. The role blends experimental thin-film work with advanced characterization and initial computational discovery. Verantwortungsbereiche

  • Grow epitaxial thin films and heterostructures using pulsed-laser deposition and magnetron sputtering
  • Conduct structural and functional characterization with X-ray methods, scanning-probe microscopy, magnetometry, and synchrotron-based experiments
  • Fabricate thin-film devices in a cleanroom and perform electrical/transport measurements
  • Apply first-principles calculations and machine-learning models to identify metastable compositions for experimental stabilization
  • Present results at conferences, publish findings, and collaborate within the group and internationally
  • Contribute to installation of equipment and development of experimental protocols to establish the new lab

Zentrale Anforderungen

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials science or a related field
  • Highly motivated, curious, and self-driven researcher
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Willingness to work in an international and diverse team
  • Ability to contribute to establishing a new laboratory and collaborative culture
  • Experience in one or more areas such as thin-film deposition, crystallography, or solid-state synthesis is advantageous but not required
