Overview
In this doctoral role you will study topochemical transformations of layered oxides, using thin-film and solution-based approaches to tune structure and functionality. You will work within a growing Solid-State Materials Chemistry group at ETH Zurich, contributing to lab development and interdisciplinary collaborations. Expect hands-on synthesis, post-growth reactions, and advanced characterization to reveal how interlayer chemistry drives magnetic, electronic, and dipolar states. This position offers a path to impactful, technology-relevant discoveries in memory, logic, and sensing applications.

Verantwortungsbereiche
- Prepare layered oxide precursors as thin films (pulsed-laser deposition), single crystals (floating zone) or nanoparticles (hydrothermal synthesis)
- Develop post-growth topochemical reactions using solution-based and controlled-atmosphere methods
- Monitor changes in composition, structure, and functional properties using XRD, Raman, scanning-probe microscopy, magnetometry, and electrical measurements; collaborate with large facilities
- Present results at conferences, publish work, and collaborate within the group and internationally
