EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency, responsible for operating a fleet of satellites that deliver weather and climate related data and images worldwide. The Headquarters in Darmstadt houses a large data centre and the operations control centre, which is staffed 24/7.

Within the General Services Division, the Facilities Management Technician works as part of a team of technicians reporting to the Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer and contributes to the installation and maintenance of EUMETSAT Headquarters’ buildings, facilities, and technical infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

• Support the maintenance of the technical infrastructure of the Headquarters buildings, especially HVAC and sanitary systems, building monitoring systems (e.g., Siemens Desigo CC, Tridium Niagara Framework), fire safety systems (sprinkler systems, fire doors, etc.), and power systems such as elevators.
• Supervise and coordinate technical service providers for maintenance and installation activities; plan, schedule and coordinate extensions and refurbishments of assigned facilities and technical systems.
• Perform regular technical inspections of building infrastructure and record and monitor the handling of identified anomalies; conduct monthly sprinkler tests, load tests of diesel generators, fire load inspections, cooling‑water sampling, quarterly particle measurements, and thermal checks.
• Establish and follow up an escalation matrix for the failure management of HVAC building monitoring systems and neighbouring trades in cooperation with Technical Officers.
• Carry out small installation works and repairs, resolve and follow up trouble tickets related to technical infrastructure received via the service desk.
• Perform procurement activities in line with EUMETSAT’s procurement procedures for assigned facilities and technical systems.
• Document Facility Management activities in various systems (M Files, Speedikon).
• Participate in the Technical Facility Management 24/7 stand‑by and call‑out team.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Full secondary education and appropriate professional qualifications and experience as a technician in the HVAC area.
• Master craftsman or state‑certified technician degree or similar education and training is advantageous.

Skills and Experience

• Proven knowledge with technical building systems and their installation, including HVAC and related building monitoring systems, fire safety systems, and other mechanical building systems – preferably in an ISO 9001 certified environment.
• Knowledge of regulations and standards applicable to HVAC installations and systems.
• Computer skills and proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, SAP, CAD (preferably AutoCAD) and CAFM systems.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety and fire prevention.
• Experience and skills in administrative/procurement/technical support and capacity to work independently.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, and the ability to work within a team.

Language

• Ability to work effectively in English and German.
