We offer a joint appointment for a Professorship for \“Thin Film Technology and Micro-/ Nanostructure Fabrication\“ at the Institute for Surface Technology (IOT) at TUBraunschweig and the Fraunhofer IST.
Salary: Grade W 3 | Ref. number 2025_f4_W001
Planned start: April 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
You will help shape the scientific and economic success of FraunhoferIST, working closely with the institute director and management team. Your duties include:
- Leading a division according to the Fraunhofer model
- Defining research strategies and project acquisition
- Transferring research into industry applications
- Personnel and organizational development
- Acting as a key contact for stakeholders from funding bodies, industry, and academia
As a board member of the IOT at TUBraunschweig, you will contribute to the university’s strategic development, particularly in digitalization, internationalization, equality, and knowledge exchange. You will represent the field of Thin Film Technology in research, teaching, and technology management, focusing on:
- Physical and chemical vapor deposition techniques
- Micro-/nanostructuring with lithography, plasma etching, laser structuring
- Material, surface, and thin film analytics
Requirements include proven research and teaching experience, international publications, application-oriented R&D willingness, active involvement in core research areas, third-party funding acquisition experience, strong English skills, and a commitment to university governance and internationalization. Candidates should have completed university studies, demonstrated pedagogical aptitude, and possess a doctorate and habilitation or equivalent qualifications.

This is a full-time permanent position; part-time possible upon request. Candidates aged 50+ without permanent civil servant status will be employed as employees.
