Offer Description
The Zeuthen location of DESY focuses on astroparticle and particle physics, including gamma-ray and neutrino astronomy, and collider physics. The experimental groups work alongside a strong theory group. DESY Zeuthen develops detectors for these experiments and is engaged in R&D for future applications. In collaboration with the Centre for Quantum Technology and Applications (CQTA), DESY Zeuthen is applying quantum technology to challenges in particle and astroparticle physics, including a new search for ultralight dark matter using ultra-sensitive optical atomic clocks. The post holder will contribute to this search by developing a test setup for networked clock comparison and frequency stabilization, and will help analyze the data collected.
About your role:
- Participate actively in networked clock comparisons for dark matter and fundamental physics measurements
- Develop a test network with clocks, frequency combs, glass fibres, and transfer lasers
- Analyze experimental atomic clock data and interpret results
About you:
- PhD in experimental physics or equivalent
- Experience with optics, lasers, and relevant physics fields
- Proficiency in English; German language skills are advantageous
- Willingness to travel for meetings, conferences, and field work
- Strong motivation, organizational skills, resilience, teamwork, and communication skills
We offer a supportive work environment, flexible working hours, part-time options, job-sharing, mobile work, health management, and pension schemes. Remuneration follows TV-AVH regulations. A German job ticket subsidy is also provided.
