Overview The University of Applied Arts Vienna invites applications for a UNIVERSITY PROFESSORSHIP (m/f/d) FOR DRAWING AND PRINTMAKING (40 hours per week) in the central artistic subject of the "Drawing and Printmaking" branch of the "Fine Arts" study program. The professorship will be located at the Institute of Fine and Media Arts within the field of study "Fine Arts" with the departments of Photography, Painting (and Animated Film), Site-Specific Art, and Sculpture and Space. It will initially be filled for a limited period of five years, with the possibility of a later contract extension by mutual agreement. The start date is 1 March 2027.
The field of study positions drawing and analog printmaking as forms of artistic expression that connect the history, present, and future of the University of Applied Arts Vienna, including an interface to digital image media and to students from various artistic disciplines on campus.
Responsibilities and profile We are looking for an internationally renowned artist with an excellent standing in the international art world who has set standards through their artistic work and has knowledge of current art discourses and methods – based on drawing and (print) graphics. Applicants are expected to have expertise and concepts that reflect, strengthen, and expand the existing profile of the department.
The core tasks of the professorship include artistic teaching and research in the field of drawing, printmaking, and related artistic fields. Teaching and research should be developed in dialogue with current artistic trends and other disciplines at the university. Four print workshops are available for this purpose, which are led by teachers with special expertise.
willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration in teaching and research
supervision of master's, diploma, and PhD projects in the artistic disciplines
taking on tasks of university self-administration and administrative duties as part of teaching
management of an organizational unit, including staff management and budget responsibility in accordance with internal guidelines
Requirements The applicant should meet the following criteria:
Artistic qualifications and outstanding professional expertise in the field of fine and media arts, especially in the context of drawing and graphic arts
An internationally recognized profile in the field of fine and media arts, demonstrated primarily through international exhibition activity
Clear positioning on a socially relevant, critical orientation of the field of study within the department, the institute, and the University of Applied Arts
Proven ability and enthusiasm for excellent teaching, promoting students' individual development interests, and supervising artistic research and final theses in the "Fine Arts" diploma program
Proven leadership experience and a cooperative and situational understanding of leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
Excellent English skills and good written and spoken German skills; courses are held in German and English
Gender competence and intercultural competence
Active support and promotion of external activities of the university or department (exhibitions, events, cooperation projects with non-university partners) as well as interdisciplinary and international projects
International contacts in the arts and culture sector to support students and graduates in their studies and to build national and international networks
Willingness to supervise students as part of the PhD in Arts program at the University of Applied Arts Vienna

Salary and policy According to the collective agreement (A1, salary scale for academic/artistic university staff), the negotiable minimum salary for professors is € 6,713.30 gross per month, 14 times per year.
