Overview

Overseas Collegiate Faculty Biology and Mathematics, University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) in Europe.

UMGC is a globally focused university serving more than 90,000 students worldwide and has delivered education to U.

S. military installations in Europe/Asia for more than 75 years.

UMGC seeks experienced faculty to travel and teach America’s soldiers, marines, airmen, sailors, and their family members in degree programs at military installations.

This is a full-time faculty position with twelve-month renewable contracts.

Faculty candidates will teach in the disciplines of Biology and Mathematics.

UMGC Europe/Asia/Downrange locations may require geographical assignment within the region and relocation throughout the appointment period.

On-site teaching is required, with an embedded online classroom component.

Faculty may live off-base and commute by car to classes.

Full-privilege, base access cards may provide access to on-base facilities.

Faculty must be flexible to teach in any classroom modality (face-to-face, hybrid, online, live streaming).

Responsibilities

• Teach a minimum of two class sections per session in on-base education centers within UMGC’s 8-week, 5-session academic calendar.
• Function independently and adhere to UMGC’s Code of Civility, demonstrating professionalism and respect in interactions with students, staff, faculty, and the local community within the military environment.
• Engage students actively, foster collaboration, and apply problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback using rubrics to assess student work and acknowledge student accomplishments.
• Contribute to the UMGC community through peer mentorship, committee service, curriculum development, and participation in activities with the local community.
• Be adaptable to classroom modalities and location assignments; participate in activities such as UMGC Presents, education fairs, and community service as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited U. S. institution; a doctorate is preferred.
• Recent college-level teaching experience.
• Ability to travel and teach in more than two of the desired disciplines is preferred.
• On-site teaching with embedded online classroom; eligibility for logistical support in host countries; U. S. citizenship may be required for certain locations.
• Favorable background check as per U. S. host country agreements.
• Self-reliant and independent; willingness to accept course and location assignments with consideration given to preferences.
• Potential sponsorship for eligible family members for a full-privilege ID card.
