Legal Advisor (f/m/d) in the Programme Area International Crimes and Legal Accountability

The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) is an independent and non-profit human rights organisation working primarily through legal means. We initiate, conduct and support exemplary cases to hold state and non-state actors accountable for the human rights violations they commit.

We are looking for a person (f/m/d) with at least two years of relevant professional experience to work in the area of "International Crimes and Legal Accountability". In-depth knowledge and critical perspectives on international criminal justice are a prerequisite, as is international study or work experience. In addition to project work and concrete case work, the position includes discursive discussions in the subject area, networking and support for those affected.

Job description

  • Project work in the programme area "International Crimes and Legal Responsibility", especially in the projects on Syria
  • Factual research and preparation of briefs, statements, legal and political analyses, memos and project management documents
  • Communication with partner organisations and those affected, with the judiciary and authorities, lawyers and those seeking justice
  • Participation in and organisation of events such as workshops, conferences and panel discussions
  • Advocacy and public relations
  • Supporting fundraising and communication
  • Training of legal trainees

Requirements

  • Law degree or adequate university education, e.g. in social sciences, each with knowledge of legal human rights work and international criminal law including procedural law
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in relevant fields
  • Experience in project work
  • Interest in and in-depth knowledge of the discussions and discourses in the field of international crimes and legal responsibility, in particular the legal mechanisms at national and international level
  • Interest in and knowledge of conflict-related sexual violence, diversity in international criminal law and power-critical perspectives on international law and international criminal law are an advantage
  • Very good knowledge of English and German is a prerequisite
  • Knowledge of the Middle East is an advantage
  • Experience in working with organisations and affected people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Experience in interdisciplinary work is an advantage
  • Proven teamwork and negotiation skills, sociability
  • Willingness and ability to explore new topics and collaborations
  • Willingness to travel on official business
  • Structured and conceptual way of working
  • Experience in dealing with different cultures and South-North cooperation
  • Identification with the goals of ECCHR

An exciting and challenging job in an internationally active human rights organisation with a worldwide network. The salary level for this position (40 hours per week) starts at 4,000 EUR gross / month according to the ECCHR salary model - we take your qualifications and professional experience into account.
