This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment, with relocation support. This full‑time, permanent contract position is graded 5.
Purpose The role provides legal advice and support to the Finance and Risk Management Directorates on capital market and treasury operations, financial instruments, structured products and new product analysis. It ensures the Bank’s legal interests are protected.
Operating Network The successful candidate reports to the Head of the Capital Market and Treasury Legal Unit and collaborates with other unit lawyers, the Directorate and the Finance and Risk Management Directorates.
Accountabilities
Provide legal advice in capital markets and treasury operations, including funding activities, liquidity management and derivatives.
Advise on financial instruments, structured products and the development of new and innovative products, including digital finance.
Contribute to the legal framework of the Bank’s funding activities, including documentation, issuance programmes and disclosure matters.
Analyse legal and financial risks and propose mitigating solutions.
Contribute to the structuring and execution of treasury related transactions, including risk and pricing frameworks.
Support relations with national and international financial institutions and external counterparties, including law firms.
Participate in transversal projects and initiatives of strategic importance for the Bank.
Keep up to date with relevant legal developments in legislation and regulations.
Build and maintain contact with the Unit’s counterparts, both within and outside the Bank.
Undertake research and conduct legal studies on issues of law arising in connection with areas covered by the Unit.
Qualifications
University degree in law, minimum a bachelor, preferably specialised in financial, banking or business law.
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally combining experience with a law firm and an international financial institution/central bank/financial institution.
Solid experience in capital markets and treasury‑related matters, including derivatives.
Experience in innovative areas such as digital finance, new financial products or market infrastructure developments would be an asset.
Proven ability to analyse complex legal issues and provide pragmatic, risk‑aware advice.
Strong capacity to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast‑paced, transaction‑driven environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of French required; knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
