The EIB, the European Union’s bank, in the framework of its GRAD programme, is seeking to recruit for its Portfolio Management & Monitoring Directorate (PMM), Transaction Management Department (TM), Equity & Growth Capital Division (EGC), at its headquarters in Luxembourg, two Graduates – Equity & Growth Capital Portfolio Management.
These are full-time positions. The term of the contracts will be 2 years.
Panel interviews are anticipated for April 2025.
Purpose
Under the supervision of the respective Head of Unit, you will perform a broad range of activities in support of the monitoring of the Bank’s equity portfolios, in particular the venture debt portfolio managed by the Division. You will support more senior officers in carrying out investment management tasks including financial analysis, valuations, internal and external report and correspondence preparation, communication with clients and maintenance of a monitoring database for the team’s venture debt portfolio.
Post specific environment
As part of the Bank’s First Line of Defence, PMM monitors counterparts and financial contracts and acts on contractual events under its responsibility, as well as on distressed transactions in order to protect the EIB’s financial interest and reputation.
The TM Department is responsible for client relationship management (starting from the handover from the Origination team following first disbursement), financial monitoring, post signature event resolution, divestment, and restructuring of the Bank’s EU and non-EU loan and equity-type portfolios.
The Equity & Growth Capital Division is responsible for Venture Debt monitoring. It comprises 2 Units: the Quasi-Equity Life Science & Biotech Unit (QE-LSB) and the Quasi-Equity Clean Tech, Industry and Digital Unit (QE-CTID).
There is a Graduate vacancy in each of these Units.
Operating Network
Reporting to a Head of Unit, you will work closely with Investment Monitoring Officers on assigned investment management responsibilities and other tasks, on an ad-hoc basis.
You will interact internally with colleagues most notably in Origination, Legal, Credit, Compliance, and our internal Engineering/Economics teams, as well as in the Joint Middle Office, for disbursements. With the support and guidance of the Head of Unit and more senior colleagues, you will also have contact with external counterparts and other transaction stakeholders.
Accountabilities
- Support the client facing investment officers of the Division:
- in the monitoring activities of their portfolio of operations (following up on the delivery and review of the financial statements received from borrowers, preparing financial analysis and related counterparty reviews, including review of scoring and KYC updates)
- in the management of post signature events (performing analysis of proposals for changes / decisions, which are put forward by borrowers for discussion / decision of the Bank. Such analysis may include: (i) financial reviews and (ii) reviews of legal documentation and (iii) result in formulation and processing / implementing internally event resolutions)
- keeping the systems updated
- ensuring that all information necessary for the preparation of the regular and annual valuation of the portfolio companies is provided in time and is consistent
- Assist in the analysis of information, the preparation of valuations, and counterparty coverage related activities
- Participate in meetings with the Bank’s counterparts (e.g. clients, co-investors,) under the supervision of the responsible investment management officer
- Ensure timely and quality output
- Participate in periodic or ad hoc reporting and analysis produced by the Division in respect of its portfolio
- Collaborate closely with peers and managers towards the team’s common goals
Qualifications
- University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor), preferably in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or Law and supplemented by post-graduate studies and/or relevant training in financial sector analysis
- A maximum of 2 years of work experience (excluding internships of less than 9 months) since your most recent graduation.
- Practical experience in line with the role and/or highly related academic studies would be preferred
- Knowledge of financial analysis
- Understanding of the EIB mission and activities as well as the operating and political framework in which the Bank operates. Previous EIB exposure will be an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
