The Safety and Radiation Protection Group at European XFEL is looking for a proactive and communicative specialist to strengthen occupational safety processes and actively contribute to the development of a positive safety culture across the company. The successful candidate will support and further develop risk assessment processes, contribute to occupational safety and fire protection topics, and design initiatives that strengthen safety awareness, learning culture, and management engagement. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, builds trust across different groups, challenges existing practices constructively, facilitates discussions, and turns ideas into practical improvements. The role is suited to a person who is interested not only in rules and compliance, but also in making safety part of daily leadership, communication, and decision-making. For our Safety/Radiation Protection group we are looking for an The Position Develop and implement initiatives that strengthen safety culture, awareness, and learning from incidents and near misses Help develop practical and accepted safety solutions in a complex scientific environment Promote practical safety solutions together with staff, collaborators, users, and technical groups Design and facilitate safety trainings, workshops, discussions, and awareness formats for different target groups Improve occupational safety processes, especially risk assessments and their follow-up Evaluate options to improve risk assessment workflows, including possible software solutions Support operational fire protection topics in cooperation with the Fire Protection Officer Requirements Completed degree and professional experience in at least one of the following fields: occupational safety, fire protection, safety engineering, natural sciences, engineering, human factors, organizational development, or a related discipline Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage different target groups Sound understanding of occupational safety principles and risk assessment processes Strong interest in safety culture, communication, learning culture, and organizational change Proactive, pragmatic, and implementation-oriented working style Ability to understand complex scientific or technical environments and translate safety requirements into practical solutions Very good command of English;
German language skills are an advantage Beneficial: Experience in a scientific, research, laboratory, high-tech, or R&D environment Experience with safety culture initiatives, workshops, awareness campaigns, or leadership engagement Knowledge of fire protection topics or willingness to develop further in this area Interest in digital tools and modern software-supported approaches to occupational safety and risk assessment For additional information, please contact Kristina Lorenzen ( ).
