Failure Analysis Engineer (m/w/d)

Job Description:

1. Failure Investigation:

• Analyze failed battery cells, modules, and packs from production lines, customer returns, or field failures.
• Conduct physical, chemical, and electrical testing to identify failure modes and mechanisms.

2. Root Cause Analysis:

• Perform detailed root cause analysis using tools like FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and 8D problem-solving methodologies.
• Investigate potential issues such as material defects, process deviations, or environmental impacts.

3. Testing and Diagnostics:

• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools like X-ray, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy), and thermal imaging.
• Conduct performance tests to understand the impact of failure on battery characteristics, such as capacity, internal resistance, and cycle life.

4. Collaboration:

• Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to develop corrective actions and improve designs or processes.
• Partner with suppliers to address raw material quality issues.

5. Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Analyze data from testing and field returns to identify trends and patterns in failures.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.

6. Process Improvement:

• Propose design modifications or process changes to mitigate the risk of recurrence.
• Develop and refine standard operating procedures for failure analysis.

Job Requirement:

• Degree (electronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar) and initial work experience or a technician training and relevant work experience in technical customer service.
• Very good analytical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot problems in software and electronics, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.
• Good presentation and communication skills.
• Business fluent German and very good English skills (written and spoken).
• Willingness to travel occasionally (nationally and internationally).
