We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the successful delivery of complex engineering projects from installation through to operational handover. The role will involve planning, coordinating and carrying out commissioning activities across a range of systems and equipment, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with agreed specifications, quality standards and project schedules.
Key responsibilities will include reviewing design documentation, commissioning plans, method statements and risk assessments; developing and maintaining commissioning schedules; and coordinating activities with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives. You will oversee pre-commissioning checks, system testing, functional performance testing and fault diagnosis, while recording results and ensuring that any defects or non-conformances are promptly resolved. The role will also involve producing clear technical reports, test certificates, handover documentation and commissioning records, as well as supporting the preparation of operating and maintenance information. A strong focus on health and safety is essential, including compliance with site procedures, permit systems and relevant legislation.
Applicants should have proven experience in a commissioning, start-up or systems engineering role, ideally within an industrial, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure or building services environment. You will need a relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience, together with the ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications and control documentation. Strong problem-solving and communication skills are required, alongside the confidence to work independently and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Experience of control systems, instrumentation, electrical or mechanical equipment, and commissioning management tools would be advantageous. The position may require travel to project sites and occasional overnight stays. In return, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to technically challenging projects while developing your expertise within a supportive and professional engineering environment.
