The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is an application-oriented research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics and quantum physics. It researches electronic and optical components, modules and systems based on compound semiconductors. These devices are key enablers that address the needs of today’s society in fields like communications, energy, health, and mobility. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.
In our Wide-Bandgap Electronics Department we evaluate new semiconductor materials and transistor devices towards their potential for power electronic switching applications. In this context, we are looking for a Scientific Employee (m/f/d), to start as soon as possible.
Reference number22/26
Your tasks
- Design and fabrication of lateral gallium oxide-based switching transistors for fast-switching and efficient power converters
- Fabrication of the devices on the FBH semiconductor process line and static and dynamic measurements of their electrical characteristics
- Publication of the results in scientific journals and presentation at conferences
- Use the results for your PhD thesis
Your profile
- A master’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field
- Knowledge or experience in the field of semiconductor devices as well as in power electronics is required
- Initial experience with the processing and electrical characterization of electronic semiconductor devices is advantageous
- You are scientifically motivated by an interdisciplinary topic that encompasses aspects of power electronics, high-frequency electronics, and new semiconductor materials beyond Si, SiC, and GaN.
- You are dedicated, work meticulously and independently, and have a very good command of written and spoken English. Suitability for working in cleanrooms is required.
Our offer
- A versatile position at a leading research institute
- A workplace with ideal public transportation connections, employer subsidy for a job ticket, and bicycle parking spaces
- Individual development opportunities and further training
- 30 vacation days (based on a five-day week), flexible working hours through flexitime, additional flex days and individual working time agreements
- Services for families: Advice and referral to childcare services, provision of places in a kindergarten in Berlin financed by the institute
- Access to health services on campus (yoga, running club, movement break and soft skills training) via the Adlershof health network
- Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund) including annual special payment, capital-forming benefits (VWL) and company pension scheme (VBL). The wage is paid up to pay group 13/2 if the relevant requirements are met.
FBH is an equal-opportunity employer and actively supports the compatibility of family and career. Particular attention is paid to gender equality and diversity. The Institute strives to increase the proportion of women in this area. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to handicapped candidates. The position can be filled at the earliest possible date and is initially limited to two years. A long-term cooperation is desired.
