The Role

For our Packaging Development team in Hamburg , we are looking for a Senior Packaging & Print Engineer!

Key packaging contact for all developments, regulations & material qualifications. Leading packaging developments including the development and qualification of new materials, formats and suppliers, to provide consumer need based compliant packaging solutions. Develop & provide rules and guidelines to executional teams, to ensure our packaging is compliant based on the different countries of operation. Coordination and realisation of machine run ability trials and pack format acceptance tests within ITG or at external machine suppliers.

Leading and co-ordinating technical packaging feasibility studies, complex developments & marketing initiative projects / programmes from project brief through the development stages of packaging solutions until final product launch. The ability to plan, co-ordinate, visualise and implement technical solutions is required.

Key Accountabilities

• Act as an interface between central functions, procurement, factory, marketing, machine supplier, production and material supplier
• Develop and design new packaging formats including patent checks and the qualification and specification of all needed materials and drawings.
• Lead complex packaging related projects from the packaging idea until it is fully implemented and operational
• Creation of measure sheets, grid nets and NTM specifications
• Management of the master drawing database
• To maintain an ongoing awareness of emerging technologies, machinery and supplier skills to ensure delivery of appropriate cost-effective solutions.
• To lead and support multiple packaging development projects in parallel including their implementation
• Structured trouble shooting on new and old generations of cigarette packaging machines. Particularly on the machine material interface.
• Optimization of the machine / material interface
• Co-ordination and set up of physical measurements for packaging material
• Monitoring of competitors activities in respect to new packaging and packaging solutions
• Support the internal engineering function on machine projects in specifying all packaging related areas, approval of format specific drawings, ordering of machine run up materials and ensuring that the run in process can run as planned both in-house and at machine suppliers. Final approval of the format on the machine.
• Project & stakeholder management of complex packaging programmes.
• Sound project management skills

Skills & Requirements

• Technical university degree or equivalent in the field of packaging or packaging production environment or technical project management
• Minimum 10 years technical practical experiences in technical function
• Knowledge in Chemical engineering / plastics technology is an advantage
• High awareness of high speed packaging lines, function and interfaces
• High experience in structural troubleshooting of the machine material interface on high speed packaging lines
• Good technical knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes and packaging machinery
• Very strong project management skills as well as strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Good understanding of design rules, packaging construction & knowledge of packaging materials (mainly cardboard, flexible materials) and machines
• Very good knowledge of MS Office and god knowledge of AutoCAD or Solid Works
• Good English, knowledge of German language is an advantage
• High interpersonal & communication skills enabling to work in various cultural contexts and pronounced capabilities of teamwork
• Flexible, reliable and accurate, even in a frequently high-pressure environment
• Willingness to travel (up to 30%)
