Overview:
I am working with a specialist energy infrastructure investor that is adding an Investment Associate to its Zurich team. You would be involved in every stage of an investment: finding and closing new deals, then helping to grow and eventually realise value from the assets the firm owns.
About the Company:
- Independent manager with more than ten years spent entirely on energy infrastructure
- Equity under management well above €5bn, spread across several funds, dedicated mandates and co-investment structures
- Capital comes mainly from pension schemes, insurance groups and large family offices with long investment horizons
- Holdings in 15+ countries across Europe and the wider OECD, including electricity grids, gas networks and storage, hydropower, wind, solar, batteries and EV charging
- Usually invests in sizeable stakes in essential assets and operating platforms, often working with major energy groups
- Strategy built on three long-term themes: decarbonisation, security of supply and digitalisation of the energy system
Responsibilities:
- Look for and evaluate new energy infrastructure opportunities internationally, with a focus on the firm's main European markets
- Build the models and valuations behind each investment recommendation
- Write investment papers and present the case to the Investment Committee
- Run due diligence workstreams with in-house experts and external advisers across technical, commercial, legal, tax and financial areas
- Help shape deal structures and take part in negotiations with vendors, banks and industrial partners
- Follow developments in the energy market and help sharpen the firm's sector views
- Lead bolt-on acquisitions for existing holdings
- Work on refinancings and help get the right debt structure in place at portfolio companies
- Push value-creation plans forward and support partial exits where the timing is right
- Track how each asset is performing against its original business plan, using clear operating and financial metrics
- Keep portfolio valuation models up to date with the valuation team
- Provide analysis for board-level decisions and keep oversight of key strategic, financing and regulatory agreements
- Prepare regular updates for investors, lenders and committees
- Manage relationships with industrial partners and advisers, including retendering contracts when needed
- Monitor cash planning, drawdowns, debt usage and covenant headroom
Candidate profie:
- 3 to 6 years in M&A, private equity, infrastructure investing, transaction services
- Excellent academic record from a top university or business school
- Strong modelling and valuation skills, backed by solid knowledge of corporate finance and accounting
- Real interest in power markets, new energy technologies and the energy transition
- Clear analytical thinking and the ability to turn complex inputs into a firm recommendation
- A self-starting, entrepreneurial attitude and the confidence to take ownership in a small team
- Fluent English is essential; German or another European language is a real advantage given the firm's DACH focus
Why Join
- Work on large, high-profile energy deals from the start
- Real responsibility on both deal execution and portfolio management
- Competitive pay and a full benefits package
- Clear room to grow within an expanding, ambitious team
- Flexible working set-up in central Zurich
