About the role
Focused Energy is developing laser-driven nuclear fusion technology to provide clean energy on a global scale.
We are seeking a leader to manage the integrated design of our fusion island from initial concept through to construction and commissioning.

What you'll do
- Maintain end-to-end accountability for the design of the fusion island.
- Establish and govern the plant architecture, safety approach, and primary design parameters.
- Direct design verification, independent assessments, and critical design reviews.
- Mediate and resolve high-level technical conflicts across engineering disciplines.
- Authorize engineering documentation including design basis, safety analysis, and interface control records.
- Supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team by setting performance goals and role definitions.
- Provide regular updates on design status, risks, and project health to the VP of reactor and fuel cycle.
- Oversee change control processes to ensure project integrity, cost control, and schedule adherence.
Requirements
- Engineering degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Extensive knowledge of nuclear reactor physics and nuclear plant systems.
- Proficiency in safety analysis principles and design basis development.
- Technical understanding of mechanical analysis, thermal-hydraulics, neutronics, activation, and I&C.
- Practical experience with configuration management, requirements management, nuclear safety, licensing, RAMI, documentation control, and project scheduling.
- Nice to have
- M. Sc. or Ph. D. in nuclear engineering.
- Experience with fusion-specific systems or advanced reactor designs.
- Proficiency in relevant industry codes and standards.
- Experience managing large-scale engineering programs, including budget, scope, and risk.
