The division of pharmacology (headed by Prof. Dr. Burkhard Kleuser) at the Freie Universität Berlin is seeking for the next possible date a postdoctoral researcher.
The Kleuser laboratory is an experimental pharmacological lab investigating the molecular mechanisms of bioactive lipid molecules in vascular, inflammatory, and oncological diseases. Recently, we developed an immunocompetent skin model constructed entirely from induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell types and investigated the impact of ceramide de novo synthesis on cerebral angiogenesis. We are located at the Freie Universität Berlin and are embedded in the highly collaborative Berlin University Alliance, with access to state-of-the-art core facilities and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Job Description
Our current research program focusses on the development of functional vasculature from stem cells. Therefore, i.e. induced pluripotent and mesenchymal stem cells will be subjected to fundamental cellular analysis like protein, gene, and surface marker analyses. Furthermore, our interests include the lipid profile of the isolated stem cells as well as of the differentiated cells forming the vascular network. Beyond the improved understanding of molecular mechanisms relevant for the function of stem cells in vasculo- and angiogenesis, the project will help to unlock the full potential of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs).
Requirements
Successfully completed university degree in the natural sciences (Master’s, Diploma or equivalent) an PhD in regenerative biology or closely related discipline.
(Professional) Experience
The candidate should be rigorously trained in molecular, cellular and/or stem cell research and have strong interest and self-motivation to develop a career as an independent scientist. The candidates must have an PhD, have published rigorous research and be capable of critical thinking and interacting productively with diverse individuals.
Desirable
- relevant knowledge in stem cell
- a strong background in experimental design and execution, along with associated computational competence (Please note: This specific job is not suitable for purely computational scientists.)
- strong track record of scientific communication, as evidenced by publication history

- fluent English skills (written and spoken)
- evidence of collaborativity and creativity
