The Bacterial RNA Biology Group headed by Dr. Kathrin Fröhlich invites applications for a
Postdoctoral position (100%) in RNA Biology
at the Institute of Microbiology – Friedrich Schiller University Jena
commencing earliest on March 1st, 2025 (or upon agreement).
We offer a full-time position (40 hours per week) for two years with the possibility of extension.
The main interest of our group is how regulatory RNAs and RNA-binding proteins are embedded in the adaptation of bacteria to changing environmental conditions. Our chemical modifications of RNA have the potential to not only affect stability and structure of the nucleic acid but, when located within coding regions, to post-transcriptionally alter the genetic information and to lead to novel, functionally distinct protein isoforms. As a member of our research team, you will systematically study the distribution, frequency, regulation, and functional consequences of RNA editing in bacteria using state-of-the-art biochemical methods, next generation sequencing, and computational analyses.
Your profile:
- PhD in microbiology, biochemistry or a related field with proven training in experimental RNA work
- Experience with the computational analysis of RNA sequencing datasets is desired
- Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English
We offer:
- An interdisciplinary and international research environment at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena () and interaction with collaboration partners worldwide
- Remuneration based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector of the Federal States (TV-L) at / up to salary scale 13 depending on the candidate’s personal qualifications
