Senior Data Engineer

We are searching for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to take the lead in building and maintaining a data system that will be the foundation for our data reporting and data analytics solutions.

To further our growth, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer (m/w/d*) for 40 hours per week to join our software team.

About the role

As Senior Data Engineer, you will take the lead in building and maintaining a data system that will be the foundation for our data reporting and data analytics solutions. You will also enable the addition of predictive machine learning and AI modelling-based enhancements to our product offerings.

You will be responsible for the collection, transformation and storage of data, ensuring the data is readily available, of good quality, and suitably optimized for supporting our business requirements.

We are looking for someone with strong technical knowledge and skills, as well as the ability to clearly communicate with a range of stakeholders, who can help the company get the most value from its data.

Your responsibilities

• Design and build a data system that will support data reporting, data analytics and predictive machine learning and AI modelling.
• Work with:
  • Business stakeholders to understand the business’ data system vision, goals, and requirements.
  • The DevOps team to define, build and maintain the required infrastructure.
  • Software engineers to understand the data sources.
  • Product owners and business intelligence stakeholders to define and develop the required data models and pipelines.
• Build data pipelines to gather data from multiple sources, and transform and aggregate it so that it is ready for consumption and use.
• Ensure data quality by data cleaning, and identifying errors and inconsistencies in data, removing them, and improving data accuracy and reliability.
• Ensure our data system is performant, scalable, cost effective, reliable, secure, and fit for purpose.
• Be an advocate for best practices and continued learning.

Requirements

• Five or more years of professional experience as a data engineer.
• University degree in a related discipline.
• Familiarity with data lake, data warehouse and data modelling principles, technologies, and tools.
• Excellent SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
• Experience of NoSQL databases such as Cosmos.
• Excellent Python skills and experience with relevant libraries.
• Experience of data visualisation / BI tools.
• Familiarity with Cloud Platforms and the data related technologies available.
• Experience building or maintaining ETL processes, and knowledge of relevant tools and technologies.
• Experience with Agile software development and practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially explaining technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Ability to take initiative, and to adapt quickly to change.

Location and reporting

• Ideally, this role will be based in Dublin, Ireland. Alternatively, it could be based in Frankfurt, Germany.
• You will report to Software Team Management.
