Our client is a fast-growing international company active in the renewable energy sector, with operations across several European countries.
The organisation is expanding its activities in Germany and is further professionalising its Finance function.
You will join an international Finance team in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment, working closely with colleagues across Accounting, Controlling, Tax and Treasury.
The Role
As a General Ledger Accountant, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records of the German business.
You will take ownership of key accounting processes and contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities.
The role combines operational accounting responsibilities with opportunities to improve processes and automation.
You will work closely with both the local German finance team and the central Finance organisation in the Netherlands.
The position is based in Düsseldorf, with a hybrid working model. You will also travel to the Netherlands approximately once per quarter to work with the central Finance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals and adjustments
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial closings
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis
- Manage intercompany accounting and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare VAT filings and ensure compliance with German VAT regulations
- Post monthly payroll journals
- Support financial statements and external audits
- Support Accounts Receivable and customer invoicing when required
- Monitor compliance with accounting policies and internal controls
- Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives
- Collaborate with Accounting, Controlling, Tax and Treasury teams
- What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience in General Ledger Accounting or a similar role
- Strong knowledge of HGB (German GAAP) and understanding of IFRS
- Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations
- Good understanding of German VAT, reverse charge and EU cross-border VAT
- Experience with ERP systems; knowledge of Net Suite is a plus
- Fluent in both German and English – both languages are required
- Accurate, analytical and proactive working style
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Willingness to travel to the Netherlands approximately once per quarter
