I am sourcing experienced freelance PLC / Controls Engineers for upcoming warehouse and distribution-centre automation projects with intralogistics integrators and OEMs in Austria.
The projects cover installation, integration, commissioning and optimisation of large-scale automated material-handling systems: conveyor lines, sorters, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), shuttle systems, palletising cells and the control layer linking them to WCS/WMS.

Role PLC programming, controls integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automated intralogistics systems, including:
PLC programming and software modifications (Siemens TIA Portal / S7) Commissioning of conveyor, sorter and storage systems on site Integration of conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, shuttles, scanners, scales and labelling stations Troubleshooting PLC, I/O, drives (SEW, Siemens) and industrial networks Interfaces between PLC, HMI/SCADA (WinCC), material flow control (MFC/WCS) and WMS System testing, FAT/SAT, go-live support Optimising throughput, cycle times and material flow Brownfield upgrades: integrating new equipment into running plants (Bestandsanlagen) Working with electrical, mechanical, software and project engineering teams
Required Experience Several years as SPS-Programmierer / Inbetriebnehmer / Controls Engineer Siemens TIA Portal and S7 (mandatory); Beckhoff TwinCAT, Rockwell or Schneider a plus Strong commissioning and troubleshooting track record on site Conveyor and material-handling systems Profinet, Profibus, EtherCAT or similar HMI / SCADA (WinCC or comparable) Reading electrical schematics (EPLAN) and technical documentation English working level, German is a bonus Driving licence, willingness to travel
Intralogistics Experience Direct experience in the following is highly desirable:
Automated distribution centres and warehouses AS/RS, shuttle and miniload systems Palletising and depalletising cells Material flow control (MFC) and WCS/WMS integration Brownfield upgrades in running operations
We will consider candidates without direct intralogistics experience if they have strong backgrounds in airport baggage handling (BHS), parcel and postal automation, automotive material handling, or special-purpose machinery, provided they bring experience with conveyors, sorters, and large-scale automated systems.
Experience with TGW, BEUMER, SSI Schäfer, Knapp, Dematic, Witron, Vanderlande, Siemens Logistics or comparable integrators is highly relevant.
