For a major data centre project in Munich, we are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee day-to-day site operations across a critical phase of the project lifecycle, from construction through to commissioning support and handover.

This role is suited to a hands‑on, delivery‑focused site leader with a strong background in mission‑critical environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality site execution while coordinating subcontractors and maintaining programme milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing all on‑site construction activities, ensuring works are carried out safely, on time, and to specification
  • Coordinating subcontractors, trades, and suppliers to ensure smooth site operations and workflow
  • Acting as the primary on‑site point of contact for project managers, engineers, and stakeholders
  • Monitoring site progress against programme schedules and escalating delays or risks where required
  • Ensuring strict adherence to HSE regulations, site safety procedures, and German construction standards
  • Conducting site inspections, quality checks, and ensuring works meet required standards and specifications
  • Managing site documentation including permits, daily reports, RAMS, and progress updates
  • Supporting logistics planning, material deliveries, and site sequencing
  • Identifying and resolving on‑site issues quickly to maintain project momentum
  • Working closely with commissioning teams to support system installation and readiness for testing
  • Supporting the final stages of construction, snagging, and handover to commissioning and operations teams

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager on data centre, pharmaceutical, or other mission‑critical projects
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, particularly within M&E or critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors and coordinating complex site activities
  • Solid knowledge of health & safety regulations (HSE) and German construction compliance
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction plans
  • Experience working with main contractors or client‑side organisations
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities on‑site
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder coordination ability
  • Fluent English required; German is highly advantageous
  • Availability for a 12–15 month freelance assignment
