Application Engineer (f/m/d) in Zwickau

The Application Engineer - Battery Systems at GAZ Energy is an individual contributor who provides technical leadership and customer-facing expertise for Multi-technology Battery business. This role supports both customers and the frontline sales team by applying broad technical insight to evaluate projects from multiple perspectives and guide optimal system design with targeted prescriptions.

Partnering closely with Sales, Product Management and Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality, the Application Engineer helps define requirements, foresee development scopes and support solution integration across the full pre- and post-sales lifecycle. Leveraging deep expertise in electrical and electronics, the role translates customer priorities into practical, compliant, customized solutions.

Task

As an independent member of Technology & Product Management Team this position serves a pivotal role in bridging with cross-functional teams like Sales, Quality, Production with significant data-driven technical influence.

Translate client technical requirements into engineering specifications, prepare technical data sheets and statements, resolve pre-/post-installation technical clarifications.

Propose battery systems from specifications incl. sizing load profiles, Integrate battery system proposal with industrial chargers and UPS systems.

Design battery racks, enclosures, and calculation of operating parameters, ventilation systems, Temperature influences, Validate DC power system components.

Prepare and conduct technical presentations for engineering consultation to clients.

Process any issues and customer complaints or Quality claims with appropriate departments.

Ensure all designs meet IEEE, IEC, and local standards.

Planning-Conduct-Supervise customer acceptance inspections and factory acceptance test (FAT).

Participate in working groups to resolve internal quality issues and create link between customers and QA department.

Participating in internal Product - Process and Production development Projects.

Product documentation and updates incl. Literatures / Catalogues, Manuals, Performance database and their marketing representations.

Your profile

Bachelor’s degree or certification in Engineering / Technical Education or equivalent (in electrical, electronics, mechatronics chemical, automation, industrial or similar).

2+ years of proven quantifiable experience in Application Engineering / Pre-Sales in the field of Industrial Batteries, Battery chargers, UPS or DC System is preferred.

In-depth electrical knowledge and experience in battery manufacturing processes or battery production environments is considered an advantage.

Hands-on experience in charging technology (industrial chargers, UPS, charging characteristics, commissioning and troubleshooting) with testing and measurement methods is highly desirable.

Familiarity with relevant norms and safety standards (e.g., IEC, DIN, IEEE)

Fluency in spoken and written English.

Excellent interpersonal /communication skills to collaborate with customers, cross-functional teams and internal/external stakeholders.

Ability to adapt to new priorities and work in a fast-paced environment with good multitasking and conflict resolving skills.

Analytical and solution-oriented thinking with structured – traceable task execution.

Willingness to international travel occasionally – visiting sites in the capacity of “battery expert” to supervise commissioning and to address-identify-resolve any issue.

Proficient in conducting technical prescriptions/seminars.
