Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Hydro Power is seeking a Project Director. In this role, you will be responsible for the project delivery, Profit & Loss accountability, and Customer Satisfaction (including Voice of Customer) through management of project-related activities and resources. The Senior Project Director is assigned to execute directly projects (Variable role).

The Senior Project Director owns/influences budgets and operating plans and is fully accountable for the financial results/KPIs of the projects managed. Internally, he functionally manages the team members in the project (in terms of priorities, performance, and development). Externally, he manages the relationship with customers as the first level of escalation.

The role is guided by operating policy and works with cross-functional teams. The role has autonomy within the operational area or a segment within a larger business unit and may have a major impact on a small business unit or Family within a Function or P&L. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes and targets.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for overseeing the projects and indirect leadership and/or management of project resources that may include equipment-only, suites of products, or turnkey projects.
  2. Typically, has the ability to attract and retain talent and often manages small teams.
  3. Developing expertise in own function and may include roles that are experts in their discipline, providing professional or thought leadership.
  4. Influences policy and ensures delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization.
  5. Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
  6. Utilizes understanding of industry trends to inform decision-making processes.
  7. Leads others to find creative solutions within complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.
  8. Employs sophisticated operational/product management, manufacturing, or engineering techniques.
  9. Interaction with adjacent functions needed to solve issues.
  10. Evaluates quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis.
  11. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  12. Leads project teams with high resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.
  13. Presents business or technical discipline solutions to leaders.
  14. Communicates complex messages and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view.
  15. Influences peers to take action and negotiates with external partners, vendors, or customers.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or Business Management from an accredited university.
  2. More than 10 years of experience with a focus on Project Management and/or International Project Execution.
  3. Solid experience in EPC (Engineering / Procurement / Construction), Energy, or Manufacturing Industry.
  4. Strong commercial/contract and financial acumen.
  5. Strong focus on Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) mindset and compliance.
  6. Customer Service and advocate mindset.
  7. Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint and knowledge of Database operations.
  8. Ability to build strong local and regional relationships with customers and ensure customer satisfaction.
  9. Fluent in English and German; a third language is highly appreciated (e.g., French, Spanish).
  10. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally in the region as required (Min. 20%).

Desired Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree, preferably MBA is a strong adder.
  2. Professional experience in Hydro or Power Generation will be highly regarded.
  3. Additional language skills would be a plus (e.g., French, German, Spanish).
  4. Experience within matrix, cross-functional, and global team organizations.
  5. Highly self-driven and self-motivated.
