Job Description Summary
For Grid Solutions, HVDC & AC Substations represent a key differentiating technology and a central focus for the business, particularly in Europe where Transmission System Operators have very ambitious renewable energy targets. In this context, Grid Solutions is looking for a Project Engineering Manager who will oversee the technical coordination and management of technical topics of the entire HVDC or AC electrical substations.
He / She will secure the technical co-ordination of all the associated design activities for the Electrical Substation, secure the delivery on time of the design documents, maintain the planned design budget, implement design changes process, supervise and coordinate all engineering tasks required to execute the project, whether in house or by suppliers/subcontractors. The Project Engineering Manager will be accountable for the proper performance of the design in terms of engineering cost, deadlines, and quality on the complete Engineering scope of the Substation.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for issuing consolidation of provisional drawing list of the project or of your work package, integrating submission dates.
- Manage global time schedule of concerned engineering activities, check coherency of links between engineering activities and other project functions activities (procurement, construction, commissioning) and organize follow up of critical activities of the project or of your discipline.
- Plan and manage delivery time of technical interfaces with your work package, put in place exchange interface sheets with partners, customer, and third-party contractors.
- Ensure on-time delivery of design to stakeholders with suitable quality including Partner documents.
- For large & complex projects support Project Engineering Director and Project I&I manager in the engineering change management.
- Lead & coordinate design teams - you'll be supported by Primary, Secondary and Civil Designers.
- Follow the engineering budget and identify potential savings and highlight to the Project Manager all instances requiring additional budget.
- Participate and contribute to the project multidisciplinary design reviews according to the EMH procedures and per the project strategy.
- Manage scope or design changes & prepare related claims and VO to be approved by Project Engineering Director or Project Manager.
- Analyse customer technical requirements, prepare and or consolidate clause by clause analysis and ensure compliance to Customer requirements through Technical Queries, identify, track, manage potential change.
- Represent customer interests in the design decisions at Project Manager's request.
- Validate design throughout customer acceptance.
- Ensure that Management of return status of project documentation internal or external (approved, comments, resubmit, rejected) is performed for your work package.
- Prepare or review technical specifications and supplier's documents to enable procurement of materials and plant detailed design.
- Check effectiveness of design against delivery of contract requirements within project budget and look for global cost optimisation in all design phase and mainly during basic design.
Qualifications and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will have the following qualification and experience:
- Electrical Engineering degree level or equivalent education/experience.
- Experience of Engineering activities as lead engineer in EPC type environment.
- Successful experience in project technical management in a multi-disciplinary team's context including multiple interfaces and with products coming from several countries.
- Fluent in English and German.
- Knowledge of the Transmission or Distribution industry is essential.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Renewable Energy systems is beneficial.
- Knowledge of GIS systems is beneficial.
