Job Description Summary
For Grid Solutions, Offshore HVDC represents a key differentiating technology and a central focus for the business, particularly in Europe where Transmission System Operators have very ambitious renewable energy targets. Grid Solutions is partnering with TenneT, which plans to invest more than $30B by 2030 in deploying new HVDC converter stations to bring Offshore Wind energy into Germany and the Netherlands.
In this context, Grid Solutions is looking for a Senior Project Manager – Civil Work who will oversee large packages as part of a portfolio of several mega HVDC projects in Germany. The Senior Project Manager HVDC will be directly responsible for the civil work scope of work of the HVDC Landstation. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the project/work package on‑time delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of project related activities and resources. They will provide leadership to strategically manage risks & opportunities and ensure that the project/work package follows high standards in terms of quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage the execution phase for a large GE work-package of one mega HVDC Project in Germany (> $1B).
- Deliver on Environmental Health & Safety, On-Time Delivery and financial objectives for the GE scope.
- Ensure project review governance in line with GE Grid Solutions operating rhythm with a focus on risks management and mitigation plans.
- Lead & coach a multicultural cross‑functional project team composed of Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, Finance, and Contract Management.
- Contribute to implementing the overall strategy for the execution of the project to achieve performance goals.
- Represent GE to the customer; control and manage this interface and relationship, coordinate with consortium partner.
- Set up and secure necessary resources for project execution; support team organization.
- Monitor and report key performance indicators; take actions to guarantee financial, time, quality, and safety performance.
- Establish and monitor the project quality plan, procedures, and EHS plan.
- Support the strategy for managing claims and lead actions accordingly.
- Define and update a risk management plan; evaluate and decide on actions that benefit overall performance.
- Develop and monitor the master time schedule and manage project float.
- Exercise commercial and financial controls during execution with regular reporting and forecasting of metrics and KPIs.
- Coordinate technical support, manufacturing/supply, and on‑site construction resources.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; preferably a technical or geological degree.
- Many years of experience in project management of large and complex projects with budgets of at least $100M.
- Experience in civil work company or turnkey contract with civil works package.

- Technical knowledge in high‑voltage electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC is an advantage.
- Experience in offshore projects is an advantage.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Fluent in English; German language is a decisive advantage.
