We are looking for an IP Manager (m / f / d / x) based in Berlin to support the Heating & Refrigeration Technologies (HRT) Division onsite.
In this role, you will be part of the global IP Team and report directly to the Senior Director of Intellectual Property Rights. You will take responsibility for our location in Berlin.
The HRT Division of GEA provides refrigeration and heating solutions for process distribution, district heating/cooling, and other industries. We help our customers decarbonize their processes using natural, zero-warming potential refrigerants, leading industrial decarbonization!

Responsibilities / Tasks
- Analyzing, structuring, planning, and optimizing the IP portfolio, focusing on Heat and Refrigeration (HRT) products.
- Developing and designing IP strategies and business models for future topics in collaboration with the BU IP Board.
- Evaluating mechanical and process inventions.
- Strengthening IP processes within development teams.
- Enhancing internal programs to solicit patentable ideas.
- Advising on contractual clauses concerning IP.
- Conducting strategic surveillance of third-party IP in relevant fields.
- Securing Freedom to Operate (FTO) for new products .
- Managing local and divisional patent and trademark budgets, including cost-benefit analyses.
- Ensuring compliance with established IP procedures and guidelines, and suggesting improvements.
- Providing internal training and workshops on IP.
- Managing external patent and trademark attorneys.
Your Profile / Qualifications
- Broad mechanical, electrical, or energy background with specialized IP knowledge in patents, trademarks, and designs.
- Self-starter with a documented IP experience.
- Engineer (Diplomingenieur, M.Sc., or equivalent).
- Open-minded with a genuine interest in IP.
- Organized with a sense of urgency, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with patent search tools is a plus.
- Fluent in English (C1 / C2) and German (B2).
