„Research for a life without cancer“ is our mission at the German Cancer Research Center. We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and look for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Every contribution counts – whether in research, administration or infrastructure. This is what makes our daily work so meaningful and exciting.
Together with university partners at seven renowned partner sites, we have established the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK).
We are seeking for the Junior Research Group „Cancer Bioinformatics and Multiomics“ at the DKTK partner site Essen/Düsseldorf a
Postdoc – Single-Cell Sequencing and Bioinformatics
Reference number: 2025-0024
Cancer Bioinformatics and Multiomics is a junior group located at the Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf. We apply third-generation and single-cell sequencing technologies to address questions relating to aberrant transcriptional processes in diverse cancers.
Your Tasks:
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with a hybrid background in computational biology and single-cell/genomic science at the bench. The successful applicant will join a DFG-supported collaborative project to conduct single-cell in vivo CRISPR screens on gastric cancer patient-derived organoids transplanted into mouse models to search for epigenetic modulators of tumorigenesis and metastasis. Responsibilities include carrying out 10X Chromium single-cell sequencing and preparing CROP-seq libraries, identifying enriched sgRNAs via UMI sequencing, and performing downstream bioinformatic analysis such as gene-set enrichment analysis of hits, identification of somatic copy number alterations, elucidation of tissue-specific drivers of metastasis, determining the relationship between primary progenitor cells and their metastases, and assessing the role of the tumor microenvironment.
Your Profile:
We are looking for exceptional candidates with a completed M.Sc. and Ph.D degree in the areas of molecular or cell biology, medical science, biochemistry, biophysics, computational biology, or similar programs. Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated experience performing and/or analyzing CRISPR screens or single-cell RNA sequencing data. The candidate should have previous experience in scRNA-seq data analysis tools such as Seurat, Scanpy, MAST, scCN, and MOFA for multiomic analyses. Since our team is international, strong written and spoken English is essential. German is desirable but not required. We value analytical thinking, flexibility regarding the tasks, responsibility, attention to detail, and above all teamwork skills.
We Offer:
- Excellent framework conditions: state-of-the-art equipment and opportunities for international networking at the highest level
