Technical and Nautical Superintendent (m/f/d)
German Tanker Shipping GmbH & Co. KG is a shipping company founded on 01.01.1998 and based in Bremen. Our fleet consists of 14 modern oil product tankers, all built in Germany. From day one, it has been part of our philosophy to provide our tankers with all-round support as a „genuine“ shipping company. Construction supervision, manning, chartering, operations, accounting, financing, IT, payment transactions, insurance, supply of supplies and spare parts, maintenance and inspections as well as the constant monitoring and improvement of all quality and safety standards were and are managed centrally from Eduard-Schopf-Allee in Bremen.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical and Nautical Superintendent (m/f/d) to join our dynamic team.
In this demanding role, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical operations of our fleet of tanker vessels, with a strong focus on emerging technologies and sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Management: Oversee the technical management of assigned vessels, including maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution, with a focus on optimizing the vessels performance and reducing operational costs.
Future Fuels and Technologies: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in marine fuels and develop strategies to integrate these into our fleet.
Alternative Maritime Power and Sails: Investigate the feasibility of integrating alternative maritime power into our vessels. Explore the use of advanced sail technologies, like wind-assisted propulsion systems, to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Modern Machinery Equipment: Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of modern machinery equipment, including engine room automation systems, advanced communication systems and battery power.
Vessel Performance: Monitor vessel performance and identify opportunities for improvement in terms of fuel efficiency, speed, and reliability, leveraging data analytics and predictive maintenance techniques.
Newbuilding Supervision: Provide technical oversight during the construction of new vessels, ensuring adherence to specifications, quality standards, and the incorporation of the latest technologies.
Purchase of Spares and Services: Manage the procurement of spare parts, equipment, and services, ensuring competitive pricing, timely delivery, and quality assurance in close cooperation with our procurement department. Develop and implement effective inventory management systems to minimize stockholding costs and optimize spare part availability.
Drydocking and Repairs: Manage drydocking and repair projects, overseeing the planning, budgeting, and execution of work, with a focus on minimizing downtime and maximizing vessel availability.
Incident Investigation: Investigate marine casualties and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence, and leveraging lessons learned to improve safety and operational efficiency, all in close cooperation with our QHSE department.
Nautical and Technical Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of your assigned vessels to ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and company policies. Monitor the vessels condition and identify potential issues.
- Navigation Systems: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of navigation systems, including electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS), radar, and autopilot systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or similar in Marine Engineering or a related nautical field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Marine Engineer or Nautical Officer on board vessels.
Strong understanding of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW.
Proven track record in managing vessel maintenance and repair programs, with a focus on emerging technologies and sustainable practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient in computer skills, including vessel management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analytics tools.
Knowledge of marine automation systems.
