The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national centre for research into the geosphere. With around 1,650 employees, we develop a sound understanding of systems and processes of the solid Earth as well as strategies and options for action to counter global change, understand natural hazards and sustainably secure energy and raw material requirements.
For section 3.4 Fluidsystemmodellierung (department “Geochemistry”), we are looking for a:
Master thesis in context of highly radioactive waste disposal

Quantifying radionuclide sorption in clay rock
Your responsibilities:
- Run models to quantify radionuclide sorption on clay minerals
- Identification of relevant geochemical processes
- Perform scenario analyses
Your qualifications:
- Study of geosciences, geoecology or chemistry
- Interest in geochemical processes in geological systems
- Basic knowledge about diffusion and sorption of dissolved species desired
- Experiences with numerical modelling are an advantage but not required
