The Geomorphology Section at the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam researches and investigates processes that affect the Earth’s surface and biogeochemical cycles such as the carbon cycle. Earth surface processes, such as erosion, landslides and the associated processes of redistribution and relocation of inorganic and organic components are the subject of numerous research projects. We use an interdisciplinary research approach using geomorphological, geochemical and geophysical methods. The section therefore operates laboratories for numerous organic and inorganic geochemical and physical analytical methods. To strengthen our laboratory team, we are looking for a laboratory assistant / chemical technical assistant (f_m_x).

Your responsibilities:

  • Chemical and physical preparation of soil, rock, water and sediment samples for biomarker analysis, stable isotope measurement, grain size measurement and anion and cation analysis (e.g. solid phase extraction, filtering, sieving, etc.)
  • Carrying out measurements and analyses using gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry (MS) and isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS), ion chromatography (IC) and granulometry
  • Computer-based evaluation of the analysis carried out
  • Maintenance of measuring instruments and analytical equipment
  • Ordering of consumables

Your qualifications:

  • Completed training as a laboratory technician or chemical technical assistant
  • Experience in chemical and physical preparation of organic and inorganic samples and general laboratory procedures
  • Experience in handling and using GC, HPLC and IC applications
  • Experience in the use of software: Chemstation, Masshunter, Isodat, Excel, Word
  • Structured and result-oriented way of working
  • Fluency in written and spoken German and very good English skills
  • Independent working style, ability to work in a team and high motivation

Start date: As soon as possible
Fixed-term: 2 years (with possibility of extension)
Salary: The position is classed as salary group 7 according to "TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)". The salary group is determined on the basis of the Collective Wage Agreement and the respective personal qualifications.
Working hours: Full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is generally suitable for part-time work.
