Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

This role offers the opportunity to contribute across multiple applications and throughout the entire technology stack, from databases and backend services to APIs and front-end development. Based in Cologne, the Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team building IMPECT's customer-facing Scouting and Analytics platforms, developing backend services and frontend features that help football clubs explore data, evaluate players and teams, and analyse performance. The work spans data-rich interfaces, interactive visualisations, integrated video tools, and workflows that support scouting and match analysis. Working closely with Product and fellow engineers, the role involves translating customer needs into intuitive, reliable applications, contributing to technical decisions, and taking ownership of features from initial design through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Build and maintain Angular web applications.
• Build and maintain Java Spring Boot APIs and backend services that power the applications.
• Design and implement database schema.
• Profile and optimise query performance in backend applications.
• Engage in architectural discussions to help design scalable and resilient systems.
• Work directly with Product and Design on scoping and designing features.
• Work in multidisciplinary teams and interface with other engineers across various domains.
• Document work in a shared knowledge base platform.
• Provide occasional technical assistance to the customer support team.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• At least 5 years of software development experience.
• Demonstrated experience programming in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Angular.
• Demonstrated experience programming in Kotlin/Java.
• Demonstrated experience working in SQL and designing database schema.
• Ability to reason about and debug complex systems and applications.
• Very strong attention to detail.
• Proven self-starter.
• Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to prioritise and a "can-do" attitude.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Git code management is highly desired.
