Introduction

The Director Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all EHS&S programs across the Dresden site and the broader EMEA region. This role accountable for protecting employees, contractors, communities, assets, and the environment, while driving full compliance with German, EU, and corporate regulations and standards. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and plays a critical role in embedding a strong safety and security culture across the organization.

Your Job

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance

    • Design, develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive EHS&S strategies, policies, programs, and procedures aligned with corporate objectives and local regulatory requirements.

    • Establish country-level EHS&S goals, performance standards, and metrics; ensure alignment with global EHS&S frameworks.

    • Interpret, implement and recommend enhancements to corporate EHS&S policies to address local risks, regulatory changes, and business needs.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

    • Ensure compliance with all applicable German and EU environmental, occupational health & safety, and security regulations.

    • Oversee audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.

    • Identify emerging risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies to safeguard employees, facilities, and surrounding communities.

    • Provide oversight for business continuity, crisis management, and emergency response preparedness across the region.

  • Operational Oversight & Accountability

    • Plan, direct, and be accountable for all EHS&S activities and outcomes across a significant regional scope of the organization.

    • Make final operational and administrative decisions within the scope of authority; provide recommendations on matters impacting broader organizational performance.

    • Operate with a high degree of autonomy; performance is reviewed based on business outcomes, objectives, and project deliverables.

  • People Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness

    • Lead and develop, and scale a multi-layered EHS&S organization, managing managers and/or senior individual contributors.

    • Define organizational structures, roles, and performance standards to support strategic objectives.

    • Ensure budgets, resources, and capabilities are appropriately planned, allocated, and achieved.

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Partner closely with executive leadership, country management, and cross-functional teams (Operations, HR, Legal, Engineering, Facilities, and Security).

    • Enable business initiatives, projects, and transformations by integrating EHS&S requirements early and effectively.

    • Represent the organization with external stakeholders, regulators, and industry bodies as required.

  • Culture & Continuous Improvement

    • Champion a strong safety, health, environmental, and security culture across all levels of the organization.

    • Promote continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, best practice sharing, and proactive employee engagement.

    • Ensure all activities are performed in a safe, responsible, and sustainable manner.

Job Complexity & Scope

  • Addresses highly complex challenges requiring evaluation of ambiguous, evolving, and intangible factors.

  • Exercises judgment beyond broadly defined practices and policies, developing innovative approaches, frameworks, and evaluation criteria.

  • Manages intermediate geographic complexity within the EMEA region, often interfacing with regional or global stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field; advanced professional certifications are an advantage.

  • Extensive experience in EHS&S leadership roles within complex, regulated environments (e.g., manufacturing, life sciences, energy, technology, or similar industries).

  • Deep knowledge of German and EU EHS&S regulations, standards, and best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, diverse teams and influence senior leaders.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance risk management, compliance, and operational excellence.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

  • Fluent in German and English (Written & Verbal: C1).
