Responsibilities
- Collect, evaluate, interpret, analyse specified statistics and socio‑economic information pertaining to enterprises and entrepreneurship.
- Maintain databases and manage programmes for database management and non‑quantitative information.
- Prepare briefing notes, inputs to speeches and other material on economic or sectoral issues suitable for non‑specialists.
- Draft analytical studies on development issues and policies, especially in enterprise development and entrepreneurship.
- Assist in organising and servicing expert group meetings, seminars, and other events on development issues.
- Support intergovernmental processes by preparing inputs for reports, following meetings, summarising proceedings, and providing inputs to statements by bureau and secretariat staff.
- Assist in organising panels, round tables and other events for intergovernmental processes.
- Compile and analyse data for technical cooperation project proposals under the Empretec programme.
- Organise workshops and awareness‑raising events, including on the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence.
- Prepare documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects and contribute to the preparation of material for approval of regional, country or sectoral technical cooperation projects.
- Monitor, backstop and assess the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- Perform other related duties, including administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit’s services.
- Undertake on‑the‑job and other training activities, both internally and externally.
Qualifications
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, development studies or related field, or a first‑level university degree with two additional years of qualifying work experience.
Work Experience
- Minimum two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis or policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes, or related area, with experience in entrepreneurship required. Technical assistance in enterprise development and use of artificial intelligence in entrepreneurship is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this opening, English is required. Either French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, or Chinese (Mandarin) is desirable. Minimum required level for each language is specified below:
