The Semantic Perception team, part of Google XR, develops innovative core tech around computer vision and machine learning, in particular scene and object understanding, 3D computer vision, multimodal learning. The activity spans the whole range from research to product. The team is composed of Research Scientists and Software Engineers experts in the field. The team serves multiple perception-related products at Google, with a particular focus on XR products and applications. For decades, the computing revolution has reshaped our world driven by
breakthroughs in compute, connectivity, mobile, and now, AI. Google's XR team is at the forefront of the next major leap – the convergence of AI and XR. This is more than just new devices – it's about reimagining how we interact with the world around us. We're building a future where
lightweight XR devices like smart glasses and headsets pair with helpful AI to augment human intelligence, offering personalized, conversational, and contextually aware experiences.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, and deliver computer vision and machine learning technologies for augmented and mixed reality platforms.
• Act as a subject matter expert in taking Computer Vision/Machine Learning (CV/ML) models from research prototypes to production, focusing on mobile framework integration, edge optimization, and runtime robustness.
• Serve as tech lead across critical XR feature tracks, guiding multidisciplinary teams of software engineers and research scientists from scoping through release.
• Partner effectively with product, UX, and program management, while maintaining proactive alignment with executive leadership and key stakeholders across the engineering organization.
