Google User Experience (UX) is made up of multi-disciplinary teams of UX Designers, Researchers, Writers, Content Strategists, Program Managers, and Engineers. The UX team gathers insights about the needs, attitudes, emotions, and behaviors of people who use our products to inspire and inform design. We collaborate with engineering and product management to create industry-leading products that deliver value for users and Google’s businesses.

As a User Experience Researcher (UXR), you’ll help your team understand user needs, work with stakeholders across functions, and have impact at all stages of product development. You’ll conduct primary research such as field studies, interviews, diary studies, participatory workshops, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, and logs analysis.

The UXR community at Google offers opportunities to learn from peers through regular meetups, mentor programs, and access to internal research tools. This role supports safeguarding Google’s products and services, applying UXR skills to improve safety in the digital world.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers and other UX Researchers to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate research findings through written reports and in-person presentations.
  • Lead research roadmaps with multi-phase projects across the portfolio.
  • Design, plan and execute rigorous, high-quality research that uncovers actionable insights to shape user experiences, identifying user needs, pain points, opportunities, and constraints.
  • Conduct research using foundational, exploratory and evaluative methodological approaches and tools across the product development life-cycle, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data from surveys, interviews, analysis and other sources to answer product questions.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in an applied research setting (e.g., product or academic), or similar.
  • Experience with research design utilizing various methods (e.g., usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys, etc.).
  • Experience in product research across end-to-end, usability, or generative settings.

Preferred qualifications

  • 7 years of experience in a variety of product spaces, applied research settings or academic settings.
  • Experience with research design utilizing various methods (e.g., usability studies, surveys, diary studies, etc.).
  • Understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
  • Ability to showcase a portfolio highlighting multiple projects that demonstrate research methodology application and artifacts like reports, personas, journey maps, etc.
  • Ability to communicate user research findings with cross-functional partners to drive impact.
