Communications Officer (m/f/d) Part-Time (20h)

The Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI), a renowned institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciencesthe country\’s leading supporter of non-university academic researchis seeking a dedicated Communications Officer to join and strengthen our Communication & Public Outreach team. The primary focus of this role is to help create a compelling and consistent presentation of the GMI, both online and in print, ensuring our message resonates effectively with diverse audiences. Communications Officer (m/f/d) – Part-Time (20h) Your Responsibilities * Edit and maintain the GMI website * Edit reports and promotional materials, liaising with researchers and external partners such as graphic agencies and photographers * Moderate social media platforms * Update GMI Wikipedia entries * Ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) * Assist with outreach activities * Collaborate and interact with counterparts at other institutions Required: * Experience in editing scientific texts and science communication * Outstanding communication skills in English (especially written) * Meticulous attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across formats * Excellent understanding of science * Comfortable working in an international environment * Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines * Team player with a collaborative mindset Desired: * Experience in web and graphic design * Basic programming skills and knowledge of relevant software * Photography skills for visual content creation and event documentation Our Offer We provide subsidized childcare (VBC – Child Care Center), opportunities for professional development, a job ticket for public transportation, special rates for private health insurance, and an in-house cafeteria. Salary The actual minimum salary is 50,000 EUR gross per year (on a 40-hour basis), the actual salary depends on your qualifications and experience. The salary is paid 14 times per year.
