Communications Officer (m/f/d) Part-Time (20h)

The Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI), a renowned institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences–the country's leading supporter of non-university academic research–is seeking a dedicated Communications Officer to join and strengthen our Communication & Public Outreach team. The primary focus of this role is to help create a compelling and consistent presentation of the GMI, both online and in print, ensuring our message resonates effectively with diverse audiences.

Communications Officer (m/f/d) – Part-Time (20h)

Your Responsibilities

* Edit and maintain the GMI website
* Edit reports and promotional materials, liaising with researchers and external partners such as graphic agencies and photographers
* Moderate social media platforms
* Update GMI Wikipedia entries
* Ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
* Assist with outreach activities
* Collaborate and interact with counterparts at other institutions

Required:

* Experience in editing scientific texts and science communication
* Outstanding communication skills in English (especially written)
* Meticulous attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across formats
* Excellent understanding of science
* Comfortable working in an international environment
* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
* Team player with a collaborative mindset

Desired:

* Experience in web and graphic design
* Basic programming skills and knowledge of relevant software
* Photography skills for visual content creation and event documentation

Salary

The actual minimum salary is 50,000 EUR gross per year (on a 40-hour basis), the actual salary depends on your qualifications and experience. The salary is paid 14 times per year.

Overtime

Any accrued overtime is compensated in the form of time off.
