• What you’ll do
• Define and shape the technical vision and long-term strategy for the Hacker Rank Developer Community platform, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
• Architect and oversee the development of scalable, reliable, and secure systems capable of supporting a large and growing user base of over 26 million developers worldwide.
• Lead the design and implementation of new features, improvements, and platform enhancements to deliver a seamless and engaging developer experience.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to develop and refine the product roadmap, prioritize features, and ensure timely delivery.
• Guide engineering teams through technical challenges, code reviews, and best practices to maintain high standards of quality, performance, and security.
• Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.
• Manage project timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within scope.
• Promote the adoption of engineering best practices, including testing, documentation, and code reviews, to ensure maintainability and scalability of the platform.
• Support the professional growth of team members by providing coaching, performance feedback, and career development opportunities.
• Ensure the platform's security, reliability, and performance meet organizational standards and industry best practices.
• Advocate for technical excellence and innovation within the team, encouraging experimentation with new technologies and approaches.
• Work with cross-functional teams to identify technical requirements, resolve issues, and implement solutions that enhance the platform's capabilities.
• Monitor system metrics and user feedback to inform continuous improvement efforts and prioritize technical debt reduction.
• Foster a collaborative environment that values diversity, inclusion, and open communication among team members.
• Represent the engineering team in leadership meetings, providing insights and updates on technical progress and challenges.
• Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to keep the platform competitive and innovative.

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on designing and building scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• At least 2 years of experience managing engineering teams, including hands‑on technical oversight, mentorship, and performance management.
• Proven track record of recruiting, developing, and leading high‑performing engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, API design, and scalable platform development.
• Experience in designing and implementing large‑scale B2C platforms or developer-focused products.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects from conception to deployment, balancing technical excellence with business needs.
• Self‑motivated and proactive, with strong problem‑solving skills and a results‑oriented mindset.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with cross‑functional teams.
• Familiarity with modern programming languages and development tools.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, microservices architecture, and API development is a plus.
• Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards relevant to large‑scale platforms.

• Background in designing and building developer tools that facilitate easy integration and adoption.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or others relevant to scalable system development.
• Strong understanding of system design principles, distributed architecture, and API development.
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure management.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience working in Scrum or Kanban environments.
• Ability to use monitoring and logging tools to track system health and diagnose issues.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
