Overview
The Institute for Autonomous Cyber‑Physical Systems (ACPS) at the School of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics (EIM) conducts research on low‑ and zero‑power wireless communication and energy management for regeneratively powered and intermittent devices. The research focuses on acoustic, underwater communication, and localisation for mesh networks and micro autonomous underwater vehicles (uAUVs). The position involves fundamental research on near‑zero‑power sensing in underwater communication, networking, and localisation, with potential topics such as passive backscatter communication, location‑aware medium access protocols, and novel localisation using metamaterials or piezo arrays.
Responsibilities
- Research underwater communication and/ or localisation.
- Design and implement embedded software and hardware for lab and real‑world experiments.
- Plan, execute, and evaluate scientific real‑world experiments.
- Write scientific papers and present results at conferences and scientific events.
- Engage in related teaching activities within the institute's teaching modules.
Qualifications
- Completed master’s degree or equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
Desired Knowledge and Personal Skills
- Profound knowledge in wireless communication and networking.
- Profound knowledge in embedded and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of ultra‑low‑power or backscatter communication concepts.
- Advanced experience in low‑level microcontroller programming (C/C++).
- Basic understanding of electronic circuits and ICs, experience in (analog) circuit design.
